Virtual (Microsoft Teams)
Three trainer-led days live on Microsoft Teams, from home or the office. Ideal when your managers are spread across sites or you only need a few places.
IOSH COURSES
IOSH Managing Safely is a 3-day health and safety course for managers and supervisors in any sector. We run it face-to-face, virtually on Microsoft Teams, as e-learning, or in-house for your team, as IOSH Approved Training Provider 4301. Delegates who pass receive an IOSH certificate. Face-to-face from £375 + VAT, virtual from £350 + VAT, e-learning from £120 + VAT.

The course runs over 3 days, whether you join our live virtual classroom or we come to your site. It ends with a short multiple-choice assessment, and each delegate then completes a risk assessment project based on their own workplace.
Yes. We run it live online in a virtual classroom: a real trainer, real discussion and the same 3 days and IOSH certificate as the classroom course. It isn’t a self-paced click-through, so your managers stay engaged and can ask questions as they go. Prefer to learn at your own pace? IOSH-approved e-learning is also available on our e-learning platform for £120 + VAT.
IOSH certificates don’t expire, but IOSH recommends refresher training every three to five years so managers stay current with the law and good practice. A recent certificate also reassures clients and auditors. Read more in What Is IOSH?
It depends on the format: face-to-face from £375 + VAT, virtual on Microsoft Teams from £350 + VAT and e-learning from £120 + VAT, per delegate. For a group, we run it in-house at our venue or yours for an unbeatable price on request. Tell us your numbers and we’ll quote within one working day.
Course facts
The course follows the IOSH syllabus, delivered with examples from real workplaces so it makes sense on a Tuesday morning, not just in the exam.
Why managing safety matters: the moral, legal and financial case, and what good looks like.
How to carry out a risk assessment step by step, from spotting hazards to recording what you find.
Choosing controls that work, using the hierarchy of control, and checking they’re followed.
The legal duties of managers and supervisors under UK health and safety law, in plain English.
The common workplace hazards, from manual handling and hazardous substances to working at height.
Why accidents and near misses happen, and how to investigate so they don’t happen again.
How to tell whether safety is improving, using proactive checks as well as incident figures.
IOSH Managing Safely is for anyone who manages or supervises other people and is responsible for their safety. No previous health and safety training is needed.
Ideal for:
Two parts, both set by IOSH. At the end of the course there’s a multiple-choice assessment on what’s been covered. After the course, each delegate completes a risk assessment project on a real task in their own workplace.
The project is the bit managers find most useful, because it leaves them with a finished risk assessment they can use straight away. Your trainer explains the pass marks and the project on day one, and checks everyone is ready before the assessment.
Pass both parts and you receive the IOSH Managing Safely certificate. Want a head start? Our guides and revision help cover the topics in plain English.
IOSH recommends refresher training every three to five years, and offers a one-day Managing Safely Refresher for managers who have completed the full course. Law, guidance and your own workplace all change, and a certificate from last decade won’t reassure a client or an inspector.
We run the one-day IOSH Managing Safely Refresher live on Microsoft Teams or on-site. If your managers were certified a few years ago, tell us when and how many and we’ll recommend the quickest way to bring them up to date.
WHY BETTER ON PURPOSE
Training people remember. Most managers expect three days of slides. Ours get discussion, real examples and a trainer who knows how to hold a room, online or in person. That’s why people stay engaged and why the learning sticks after the certificate.
Properly accredited. We’re an IOSH Approved Training Provider (4301) and a Highfield Approved Centre (17588), so your certificates are the real thing.
Built around your team. Live online for a few places, or on-site for a whole management team, with examples from your industry. Need more than IOSH? We also run management training and health and safety courses for every role.
Same IOSH Managing Safely certificate whichever you choose. In-house courses for your team, at our venue or yours: an unbeatable price on request.
“You certainly have a talent for keeping everyone engaged and enthused for three days. Excellent!”
CLARITY
It’s an IOSH-certificated course rather than a regulated qualification on the national framework, but it’s one of the most widely recognised health and safety certificates for managers in the UK. Employers, clients and tender documents ask for it by name.
It isn’t set at a formal qualification level. It’s designed for managers and supervisors who need a practical grounding in health and safety, without needing a specialist background. If you want a full professional qualification, the NEBOSH General Certificate is the next step up.
It’s designed for non-specialists, and people who take part in all three days are well prepared for the assessment. The test checks understanding rather than memory tricks, and the project is based on your own workplace, so it uses what you already know.
There are two parts: a multiple-choice assessment at the end of the course, and a risk assessment project completed in your own workplace afterwards. IOSH sets the pass mark for each, and your trainer explains both on day one so nobody is caught out.
Managing Safely is a 3-day course for people who manage or supervise others. IOSH Working Safely is a 1-day course for employees at any level. Many teams send managers on Managing Safely and everyone else on Working Safely.
No. IOSH Managing Safely is a short course for line managers. NEBOSH certificates are longer professional qualifications for people moving into a health and safety role. Most managers need IOSH; your safety lead might need NEBOSH.
Yes. The course is for any sector. When we run it for your team, on-site or online, we use examples from your industry so the risk assessments and discussions feel real.
