IOSH COURSES
The IOSH Managing Safely Refresher is a one-day course for managers and supervisors who have completed the full IOSH Managing Safely course. We run it live online on Microsoft Teams, or face-to-face on-site for groups anywhere in the UK, as IOSH Approved Training Provider 4301. Delegates who succeed receive an IOSH Managing Safely Refresher certificate.
The IOSH Managing Safely Refresher is a one-day course. It revisits the key parts of Managing Safely through a plan, do, check, act safety and health management system, with leadership at its heart. Delegates who succeed receive an IOSH Managing Safely Refresher certificate.
Anyone in a management or supervisory role who has already completed the full IOSH Managing Safely course. It isn’t a shortcut for people who never did the full course: they need the three-day IOSH Managing Safely course instead, which we run live online, on-site or as e-learning.
Yes. IOSH lists the refresher as in-person, online or hybrid. We run it live on Microsoft Teams with a real trainer, which is the way we recommend, or face-to-face at your premises for a group. It’s a live day with discussion, not a self-paced click-through.
IOSH certificates don’t expire, but IOSH recommends refresher training every three to five years so managers stay current with the law and good practice. Some clients and contracts set their own timescale, so check yours. Read more in How Long Does IOSH Last?
Course facts
The refresher follows IOSH’s course outline: a recap, then leadership, then each stage of plan, do, check, act, linked back to your own workplace.
What delegates took away from the full Managing Safely course, the key reasons for managing safely, and a recap of the key terms.
Why leadership is important, and how managers create a positive safety culture.
What a safety and health policy is, what it includes, and how to put it in place.
A risk assessment exercise, and the best ways to communicate the findings and the safety and health plan to the workforce.
The types of data available, what can be measured, and how it shows whether the plan is in place and working.
Why reviewing performance, acting on lessons learned and improving continually matters, then reflecting on how to use it back at work.
IOSH says the refresher is for anyone in a management or supervisory role who has completed the full Managing Safely course.

One practical day, built around a case study. IOSH designed the refresher around an interactive case study: delegates apply what they know to the plan, do, check, act model, then link it back to their own workplace. They look at what a safety and health policy looks like, come up with ideas to influence safety culture and choose the best ways to engage a workforce.
Delegates who succeed receive an IOSH Managing Safely Refresher certificate, which can be verified online through IOSH.
To confirm: how the refresher is assessed: iosh.com and the IOSH fact sheet don't say; confirm from the IOSH course pack
IOSH certificates don’t expire, but IOSH recommends refresher training every three to five years. Law, guidance and your own workplace all change, and a recent certificate reassures clients, auditors and inspectors.
If your managers were certified a few years ago, tell us when and how many and we’ll recommend the quickest way to bring them up to date. For the detail on validity, read How Long Does IOSH Last?
WHY BETTER ON PURPOSE
Training people remember. A refresher can feel like a box to tick. Ours gets discussion, real examples and a trainer who knows how to hold a room, online or in person, so managers leave with ideas they’ll use.
Properly accredited. We’re an IOSH Approved Training Provider (4301) and a Highfield Approved Centre (17588), so your certificates are the real thing.
Built around your team. Virtual for a few places, or face-to-face for a whole management team, with examples from your industry. Need more than IOSH? We also run management training and health and safety courses for every role.
Same one-day course, same IOSH certificate. We recommend virtual for most teams.
“I felt that I have learned quite a bit more on health and safety, lots of practical information which I’ll be able to employ within my work. The trainer was very knowledgeable and made the day fun. Really enjoyed, thank you.”
CLARITY
The full IOSH Managing Safely course runs over three days and is for managers and supervisors new to it. The refresher is one day and is only for people who have already completed the full course. It revisits the key parts rather than teaching them from scratch.
IOSH says the refresher is for people who have completed the full Managing Safely course. If a manager never did it, or can’t show they did, the full three-day course is the right route. All genuine IOSH certificates can be verified online through IOSH.
No. IOSH course certificates don’t expire. IOSH recommends refresher training every three to five years, so a manager who takes the refresher now would usually look at the next one in three to five years’ time.
The IOSH Managing Safely Refresher is from £149 face-to-face and from £140 virtual on Microsoft Teams, per delegate, plus VAT. In-house for your team, at our venue or yours: an unbeatable price on request.
Not yet: refresher e-learning is coming soon. For now we run the refresher live on Microsoft Teams or face-to-face. Our e-learning platform does have the full IOSH-approved IOSH Managing Safely course, at £150 + VAT, for managers who haven’t done the full course yet.
IOSH doesn’t list a separate Working Safely refresher. People usually retake the one-day IOSH Working Safely course, or move on to Managing Safely if they now supervise others.
Yes. We run it face-to-face at your premises anywhere in the UK, or as a private virtual session for your team on Microsoft Teams. Either way we use examples from your industry, so the case study and discussion feel real.
