ONLINE COURSE
Our food hygiene Level 1 course is a short online introduction to food safety for people who work around food but don’t prepare it: front of house and checkout staff, kitchen porters, warehouse teams and new starters handling low-risk or wrapped food. It’s an introduction to food safety at work: the key laws, the hazards from delivery to service, how micro-organisms cause food poisoning, the procedures that control risk and why pest control matters. “Level 1” describes the level of the content. Our course gives you a certificate of completion; it doesn’t lead to a formal Level 1 qualification.
It suits induction training for new staff with little or no food safety knowledge, people handling low-risk or wrapped food, front of house staff such as waiting or checkout staff, and back of house staff such as kitchen porters and warehouse teams. Anyone who prepares or cooks open food should take Level 2.
It can be, for the right role. The law asks food businesses to make sure food handlers are supervised and instructed or trained in food hygiene to a level that fits their work, and GOV.UK says no certificate is required. For low-risk roles, Level 1 plus supervision on the job may fit. You decide, based on what each person does.

CLARITY
No. The course is Level 1 in terms of the knowledge it covers, and you get a certificate of completion when you pass, but it doesn’t lead to a formal Level 1 qualification. The law doesn’t require a qualification; it requires training that fits the job.
You can try the first module free before you buy, so you can see how the course works. The certificate comes with the full course. GOV.UK also suggests asking your local authority about food hygiene courses it provides or recommends.
There’s no legal expiry date. GOV.UK guidance says staff must have up-to-date training for their role and that you should keep a record of it. Refresh when someone’s role changes, for example when they start preparing food, which is the time to move them on to Level 2.
Only if their job stays low-risk. Level 1 is designed for induction, but if someone will be preparing, cooking or handling open food, it’s simpler to put them straight on Level 2, which covers the same four topics in more depth.
Yes. On our e-learning platform you can enrol new starters as they join, mix catering, retail and manufacturing versions, see who has finished and keep certificates for inspections. The course facts above list its CPD units, and our guide explains what CPD means.
